Hunstanton man Carl Roper banned from driving again in King’s Lynn court

A man with a history of dangerous driving has been banned from the roads again after getting behind the wheel while disqualified.

Hunstanton man Carl Roper, 48, of Seagate Road, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance.

He was handed a lengthy ban for dangerous driving back in 2019 - and although it had come to an end, he has not yet taken an extended retest.

On November 20, he was spotted driving a Vauxhall Corsa in his coastal hometown by two off-duty police officers who knew he was forbidden from doing so.

Roper, who had committed 25 previous offences, was stopped and arrested.

In mitigation, duty solicitor Tiffany Meredith said Roper had permission to use the Corsa, and was on his way to drop it off for the owner.

“He puts it down to bad judgement,” Ms Meredith said.

“He regrets it - he accepts there was no urgency to the matter. He doesn’t particularly know why he did it.

“He has tried to turn his life around of late.”

Roper has taken up employment as a bricklayer, the solicitor said - while he has also stopped taking drugs.

“He is looking well - he says he is feeling well,” she added.

“He says he is finished with bad judgements - he wants to move on from that.”

Magistrates disqualified Roper from driving for another six months and fined him £380.

He will also pay a £152 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.
