Fakenham marketplace packed for the annual wreath-laying Act of Remembrance ceremony

Fakenham marketplace was packed for the annual wreath-laying Act of Remembrance ceremony around the war memorial. The parade into the square was led along Norwich Street by the Town Band.

In addition to locally-based groups, wreaths were laid on the memorial by representatives from RAF Mildenhall, RAF Marham and USAF Mildenhall. In her prayers, Fakenham Rector Rev Tracy Jessop hoped for reconciliation between nations so that all people might live together in peace. Her thoughts also turned to those whose lives had been taken away.

Parade Marshall, Colonel David James OBE, chairman of the Fakenham branch of the Royal British Legion, read out the opening lines of the poem For The Fallen by Laurence Binyon. The Last Post and Reveille were played by the Town Band’s leader, interspersed with the two minutes’ silence.
