King's Lynn Mart closed today due to Storm Eunice

Lynn's Mart has been forced to close today due to high winds as Storm Eunice sweeps across the area.

Donald Gray, the event's chief steward, confirmed a short time ago: "The Mart will not be opening today due to Storm Eunice.

"If the weather changes I will keep people updated."

The Booster ride which is 140ft when in operation is currently folded down to ensure safety which is paramount for the site's crew and visitors.

The fair also closed early on Wednesday evening when the area was hit by Storm Dudley.

The event is the latest casualty of the weather, following the abandonment of today's race meeting at Fakenham and the cancellation of Circus Mondao's shows at Knights Hill until Wednesday.

Fakenham Town's Thurlow Nunn Premier Division match away at Norwich United tonight has also been postponed. The game has been rescheduled for March 22.

And organisers of the regular village hall market in North Wootton have cancelled the event scheduled for tomorrow.

A Twitter post this afternoon said: "Although #StormEunice passes over us today, high winds are expected to continue and we wish to consider everyone's safety. Thank you for your support. Stay safe."

The strongest gusts here are expected in the next few hours, according to the Met Office, with winds expected to slowly ease from later this afternoon.
