May date set for new Hunstanton tourist hub launch - Covid permitting

Council chiefs say a new tourist information point (TIP) in Hunstanton will open next month, as long as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

It was confirmed last week that the provision will be housed at the Oasis leisure centre this summer.

The switch followed the controversial provision of an unstaffed facility at the Coal Shed Gallery during 2020.

The Oasis, which is operated by Alive West Norfolk, is expected to begin opening some of its facilities from Monday, in line with the rules allowing gyms, along with non-essential shops, to resume operating again.

But West Norfolk Council officials said this week that the new TIP would open from May 17, assuming the conditions for further easing of coronavirus restrictions have been met.

The authority also pointed out there had been a 78 per cent increase in traffic to the visitwestnorfolk.com website during 2020-21, equating to more than two million page views.
