Mayor goes on air to uphold Lynn mart tradition
One longstanding Mart tradition will go ahead in spite of the annual fair falling victim to the pandemic.
West Norfolk's borough mayor, GeoffHipperson will read out the Royal Charter which traditionally proclaims the opening of the Mart on the Tuesday Market Place.
He recorded it at his home this week and it will be read out at mid-day on Saturday (February 13) on Radio Norfolk and also go out on West Norfolk council's social media sites.
Mr Hipperson said: “Obviously the Mart can't be with us this year but I am delighted to be able to read the opening proclamation in the spirit of continuity.”
He said that he has attended the opening in a civic capacity for the past three years and would miss being there and also joining the showmen for the traditional lunch.
