A popular aspect of school life for these youngsters at Grimston Church Hill First School in 1984 was the time spent in learning about animals.
There were 56 children at the school, divided into three classes, and they helped look after an assortment of animals including hamsters, gerbils, fish, stick insects, a rabbit and even Horace, a pet hedgehog, who spent the winter in the warmth of the headteacher’s living room.
Miss Fay Ball was the headteacher, looking after the top class, Mrs A Travers took the middle class and Mrs P Mills the reception class.
