Midsummer Fayre fundraising for Wimbotsham recreation ground
A Midsummer Fayre fundraising for Wimbotsham recreation ground was held in the village on Saturday.
A cake stall, giant bubble-making, head garland-making, a sports area for activities and a bar run by the Chequers public house in the village were among the attractions on offer.
"We estimate that there was a crowd of about 1,000 people," said Wimbotsham recreation ground committee chairman, Steve Mingay.
"Funds raised all go back into keeping the recreation ground in usable condition for the local community.
"We had 40 local crafters turn up. The bands who played all volunteered their time free of charge.
"A lovely day was had by all – and no tornado! There was a funnel cloud here about four to five years ago."
A number of bands played including the Breckland Blues Band, Blue Laces, Malcolm Sargent, Lynn College of West Anglia students who were using the experience to add to their coursework portfolio, Tall Fakers, and a group from the Chequers Sunday afternoon jam sessions.
The truck on which bands used as a stage to performed was kindly provided by Bearts of Stow Bridge. A final fundraising figure will be confirmed.
