£1m Hunstanton Bus Station revamp gets under way

A £1million project to revamp a town’s bus station is now under way.

Norfolk County Council’s ambitious Hunstanton Bus Station scheme began today, and is scheduled to finish by the end of March.

Until then, it will be closed, and temporary bus stops will be put in place on St Edmund’s Terrace. The loading bay on St Edmund’s Terrace, 20m south of the junction with The Green, will be suspended to allow additional room for this.

“The overall aim of the scheme is to implement a travel hub that encourages public and sustainable travel modes, which is accessible for all users,” a county council spokesperson said.

“The proposal includes installing a new zebra crossing, installing improved street furniture, refurbishing the existing toilet block and more.

“The county council thanks people for their patience while this improvement work is carried out.”

The work, which has been allocated a £1million budget, will be carried out by the county council’s infrastructure department and its contractors.

This project is part of a series of schemes across Norfolk aimed at improving bus journey times, reliability of services across our public transport network, and passenger experience at key travel hubs and bus stops.

The Department for Transport awarded the council nearly £50million of funding for its Bus Service Improvement Plan.
