Post Office in Great Massingham to close for a month - but mobile service will be provided

Extensive refurbishment work will result in the closure of a village post office from next week for a month.

Great Massingham Post Office and store is due to close at 1pm on Tuesday, October 15 for building work and re-open on Thursday, November 14.

In the meantime, residents will still be able to get access to services from the postmaster via a Mobile Post Office which will be sited nearby between St Mary’s church in Station Road and the Dabbling Duck in Abbey Road - close to the normal branch which is in Station Road.

The mobile service will start on Wednesday, October 16, opening on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 5.30pm and Saturday from 8am to 12.30pm.

There is also an alternative, full-time Post Office branch at Grimston in Massingham Road which is open Monday to Saturday, 6.30am to 7.30pm and Sunday 7.30am to 1pm.

A Post Office spokesperson said to provide this interim service in Great Massingham, the Burnham Deepdale mobile service will also need to close and then re-open on Thursday, November 14. Alternative branches for customers in Burnham Deepdale include Brancaster (Monday to Saturday: 9am to 5.30pm) and Burnham Market (Monday to Friday: 9am to 1pm).

Sally Ingold, Post Office area change manager, said: “We’ve been working with the postmaster to provide an interim branch to maintain service during big improvements being made to the Post Office and shop. We’re delighted that there’s the opportunity to for a temporary Mobile Post Office in Great Massingham for the convenience of customers.”

The revamped Post Office will be open for extra hours following refurbishment - the same hours as the shop: Monday to Saturday 7am to 7pm and Sunday 9am to 7pm.

This will provide 82 hours of Post Office service a week, making it more convenient for customers to visit. This is nearly an extra 30 hours of service a week including all-day Sunday, Saturday afternoon and earlier opening and later closing every day, the spokesperson added.
