Review of The Elm Tree Inn: Modern village pub offers tasty food and has really friendly staff too

With autumn in full force, I wanted to find a nice cosy pub to match this time of year – so having driven past this venue on many occasions, I thought why not give it a try?

I had read good things about The Elm Tree Inn in Elm online, and after seeing appealing photos of the food, I wanted to go and try the dishes myself. So myself, my partner Brandon and his mum Emma booked a table for 6.30pm on a Tuesday night.

Our first impressions were that it seemed quite quiet as there were only a few people sitting in the bar area having a drink, and we were greeted straight away by a polite waiter who allowed us to choose where to sit.

In the restaurant area, there were only three other tables occupied with the conservatory area completely empty - but that is not unusual for a weekday.

The table was nicely set out and the inside of the restaurant felt clean and had modern decor. It seemed like a lovely, clean, and friendly village pub that would be quite busy on a weekend.

There was a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to choose from, but we all went for a pint of Coke each (£3).

The main food menu had a good variety of options to choose from, including starters, sides and mains.

Brandon chose the chargrilled locally reared British rump steak which was served with chunky chips, mixed leaves salad, sea salt and a grilled tomato for £22.95 - and he added peppercorn sauce for an extra £3.50.

Emma went for the Aberdeen Angus beef burger served with chunky chips, gherkin, onions, sliced tomato and crisp lettuce (£15.95).

I chose the local butcher’s pork sausages served with creamy mash, crushed peas, gravy and crispy onions (£16.50).

Our food arrived fairly quickly, and it was well-presented and looked very appealing.

Brandon was very happy with his meal, saying it was one of the best steaks he has had and was cooked perfectly but he said he would have preferred thinner chips over the chunky ones. However, Emma really enjoyed the chips.

Emma thoroughly enjoyed her dish and also thought it was one of the best burgers she has had.

When the dish came out she thought the portion size looked on the smaller size but once she started eating it she was soon full up.

My sausage and mash dish was delicious and full of flavour – it did not disappoint.

After we had finished our meals, we were all full up so decided not to try the desserts on this occasion.

Overall, the food was very yummy and the waiter serving us was really friendly so I would definitely recommend The Elm Tree Inn to anyone looking for a nice place to eat out.

It is located on Elm Low Road and is open seven days a week from 12noon onwards.
