West Winch mother Rebecca Hunt risks jail after drink-driving offence

A mother is at risk of a jail term after being caught drink-driving with a young child in her car.

Rebecca Hunt, 41, of Laurel Grove in West Winch, was spotted chasing the child towards her Nissan Juke while appearing intoxicated on July 18.

The police were called after she drove home, with officers witnessing her exit the vehicle with the keys in her hand.

At the time, she said she had been trying to take a young family member home. She failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.

In custody, she blew a reading of 130mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath - nearly four times the legal limit of 35mcg.

Hunt appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where she pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

Mitigating, duty solicitor George Sorrell admitted it was a “very high” reading.

He provided magistrates with Hunt’s own “literature” which outlined the reasons behind her actions on the day of her offence, as well as a letter from her counsellor.

Mr Sorrell said that Hunt has struggled with alcohol problems in the past.

Magistrates, noting that Hunt’s offence comes with a starting point of 12 weeks in jail, asked the probation service to carry out an all-options pre-sentence report.

She will return to court on January 14 to learn her fate, and has been released on unconditional bail.

Hunt has also been handed an interim driving ban, which will last either for six months or until she next appears in court.
