Lynn Motor Club to celebrate 70 years on the road
It is 70 years since Lynn and District Motor Club hit the road and it will be celebrating with an anniversary dinner at the town hall next month.
The organisers are wondering if there are former members out there who would like to join the current members, families and friends for the evening.
It takes place on Saturday, February 25, will be attended by the borough mayor and will have rally star Phil Mills as guest speaker.
Phil was co-driver for 2003 WRC World Champion Petter Solberg and owns world class rally car preparation and build business, Viking Motorsport. He will talk about his career and be braving questions on the night.
And there will be plenty of time to natter and reminisce on the past 70 years of the club's history.
The origins of the club date back to the days of Raymond Mays and the then BRM Racing Equipe. It was during one of Raymond’s talks to a local organisation to raise funds for the team that sparked off the idea of a BRM Supporters Club. This club was formed in the early 50s and, primarily, held fund raising events for the team. KL&DMC was formed in April 1953 as an offshoot and has been going strong ever since.
In the early years the club regularly organised autotests, rallies and autocross events with the main event in the 1950s and early 60s being the Hunstanton Rally which ended with an autotest on the seaside promenade!
In the past, the club has organised several stage rallies including The Tour of Norfolk in the early 1990s and co-promoted events at Watton and West Raynham airfields, as well as a big fundraising rally at RAF Marham.
Today, the Club organises clubnight events ranging from 12 car rallies to gymkhanas. In the summer it stages its annual Classic Car Rally which attracts entrants from all over the region. And members compete and marshal at other events across the country.

Tickets are priced at £35 per person and bookings close on January 20.
