Frustration over burnt-out caravan at Gogg’s Mill near Fakenham

A burnt-out caravan in a field near a beauty spot has led to numerous complaints as mystery mounts over what has happened at the site.

The state of the parcel of land near Gogg’s Mill, close to Fakenham, is causing frustration and raising questions for passers-by.

It was bought at auction in 2022 and the new owner did have plans to turn the Hempton location into a community green space.

However, these plans have faltered - and three years later, a burnt-out caravan and other bits of waste are all that remain at the site.

Fakenham Town Council has been hit with a volley of complaints in recent weeks.

But despite the town clerk making enquiries with the authorities, they appear to have reached a dead end.

Angela Glynn, mayor of Fakenham, said: “While it is not in our parish we have received a number of complaints.

“Both Hempton Parish Council and North Norfolk District Council have been contacted but both have said there is little that can be done as it is on private land.

“There is not much we can do about it, unfortunately. The lady seems to have disappeared.”

Sharon Newman bought the land in 2022 but a year later, she said her plans to turn it into a community garden came to a halt.

Tools and other equipment were stolen from a shipping container located on the field, which had a value of £10,000.

This financial blow left her no longer able to continue with her plans, saying at the time that her “dreams have been taken away from me”.

Mrs Newman has been contacted for a comment.
