Mystery surrounds future of Royal Family’s traditional Christmas at Sandringham as disgraced Andrew to move to estate
Mystery surrounds the future of the Royal Family’s annual Christmas visit to Sandringham ahead of their disgraced family member’s move to the estate.
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been stripped of his royal titles and is set to move to a property on the Royal Sandringham Estate in the new year.
His move will not interrupt the visit of the remainder of his family’s annual visit to West Norfolk for the festive period, as it is thought that they will keep up with the annual tradition this year.
However, there is uncertainty over the family’s visit in years to come, as the King’s disgraced younger brother will reside on the estate.
The Lynn News asked Buckingham Palace whether King Charles III, his wife Queen Camilla and the remainder of the family will be visiting Sandringham for Christmas celebrations in future years.
But the palace said it was “not something we would comment on”.
It is a mark of tradition for some residents, who flock outside the St Mary Magdalene Church on the estate every year to catch a glimpse of the Royal Family making their way to their Christmas Day service.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, alongside their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, visit every year and are often popular with members of the public.
Andrew’s move from his Windsor mansion comes as his links to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein continue to cause controversy.
It is understood he will move into a property on the estate, which will be privately funded by the King.
The former prince has come under fire in recent months following the release of the memoir of the late Virginia Giuffre, who alleged that she was forced to have sex with him three times when she was a teenager.
Ms Giuffre alleged this happened once at convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell’s home in London, once in Epstein’s address in Manhattan, and once on the disgraced financier’s private island, Little St James.
