New chairperson for West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled
West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled Association has welcomed a new chairperson, Bernadette Ford.
Taking over from Colin Perriss, she is an experienced horsewoman who is also well aware of the challenges that disabilities can bring.
“I have always been passionate about horses and am lucky enough to own and breed them in West Norfolk,’ she said.
“I also have direct experience of disability within my own family, and have seen at first hand, the benefits that being around horses can bring.”
Originally from New Zealand, she says she is looking forward to helping the charity rebuild after the difficult times encountered through Covid.
She said: “I have been very impressed by the work and dedication that the volunteers and staff have shown and have been thrilled to see the happiness on faces and improvements in our clients’ wellbeing, as they participate in riding, carriage driving, equine assisted learning therapy, or tea with a pony sessions.”
The Magpie Centre is now looking to expand its fundraising activities, and is seeking new volunteers, so that even more disabled people can enjoy the benefits of equestrian activities.
