Swaffham charity day boosts Macmillan cause
More than £1,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support when a charity football match and funfair were staged in Swaffham at the weekend.
Organisers hope the event, which was held at Swaffham Town Football Club’s Shoemakers Lane ground on Sunday, will become an annual fixture after hundreds of people came along to support it.
The event was organised by staff from Benchmarx Kitchens and Joinery in Lynn, who nominated Macmillan as their charity of the year, with support from Travis Perkins.
Players were asked to donate £10 each to take part, while spectators were also asked to donate whatever they could afford in order to watch the game.
As well as the action on the pitch, which ended in a 5-5 draw, the afternoon also included funfair rides, a children’s crossbar challenge, a raffle, barbecue and live music by the Pedlar Rock Band and Sadie Barker.
A total of £1,086.68 was raised during the day.
Town councillor Brendan Holmes thanked everyone who attended and particularly the businesses who offered support.
