Colour and style consultant launches new business in Downham Market

She left a colour and style consultation feeling like a new woman and now Shirley Webb has retrained so she can help others by advising them on the right colours and clothing to wear.

It was a friend who suggested Shirley seek professional help with her own wardrobe and although that was 20 years ago, she’s never forgotten how the session made her feel – and it was this which inspired her to retrain as a colour and style consultant.

She launched Btransformed in February after training with Colour Me Beautiful and now offers a range of services including colour consultations – to help clients understand which colours work best with their skin tone, eye and hair colour – and full image overhaul including make-up.

“I had a wardrobe full of clothes and nothing to wear, and I couldn’t understand why things looked good on my friends and when I wore them, they didn’t,” recalls Shirley, of Downham.

“A friend persuaded me that having my colours done would be good for me and boost my confidence – and it did. I was just about to change jobs, and it gave me a real boost, I knew how to present myself in well-fitting clothes and make the right impression.”

When she officially retired from her corporate NHS job 18 months ago Shirley found herself bored and looking for a new challenge. A conversation with a beautician led to her lightbulb moment.

“The lady was wearing all black and no make-up and we were just chatting about how she could benefit from some colour, and save money on clothes,” says Shirley.

“And then I just thought I would love to make other people feel how I did when I had my colours done and that’s been my motivation ever since.”

During a consultation Shirley uses the Munsell Theory on colour to determine a palette of 42 colours best suited to each client. She can also offer advice on which styles and shapes of clothing are best for them too.

She added: “It’s all about re-inventing your garments, creating more outfits in order to buy less.

“So far, I’ve exhibited at some mind, body, spirit fayres, wedding shows and held some workshops, parties and seen numerous clients. The boost to their confidence when they walk out the door is just amazing.”

“I just want to be able to help people, boost their confidence through style and colour. I really just love doing what I am doing.”
