Rainbow Deli Norfolk launches in Fakenham
A new deli with a Mediterranean twist opened its doors in Fakenham yesterday.
The Rainbow Deli Norfolk in Upper Market Street welcomed a constant stream of customers keen to sample its products when it started trading for a few hours as a 'soft launch'. Town Mayor Gilly Foortse will perform the official opening ceremony on Thursday.
It is a business expansion for husband and wife team Alan and Naomi Katze, who enjoyed two successful years running the Rainbow Stores at East Rudham, which they closed in August ready for this their next project.
Said Naomi: "Our first day was fabulous. There has been so much interest in us opening the deli as there's nothing quite like it here in Fakenham. People have been knocking on the door while we were carrying out preparations asking when we would be ready for business.
"The initial reaction to deli has been very pleasing and encouraging.
"We are a Mediterranean and local deli selling meats, cheeses, dips, olives, antipasti, cakes, pastries and quiches. We use three bakers, all from the local area, who produce different styles of food."
These are Amanda's Cake Corner, Orchard Cake Design and the Norfolk Scone Company. Other Norfolk suppliers include Staithe Smoke House, which supplies smoked salmon and Blackbird Cottage, which produces flavourful terrines hand-crafted in the rustic French tradition.
"With our cakes, we have tried to give them a Mediterranean twist, such as tiramisu brownies and Seville orange and carrot cake. There are also some amazing Italian pastries, such as cannoli with sweet creamy fillings," said Naomi.
The deli has been completely redecorated throughout using blue and white colours to give a Greek feel and is decorated with maritime-themed items, such as lobster pots. There is seating for six inside and there are two tables outside.
Workshops are also lined up for people to get creative. On Sunday, December 1, there will be a Christmas sugar modelling event and on Sunday, December 8, a Christmas wreath-making session takes place. Both can be booked by messaging on Facebook or calling into the deli.
