New electric bike store in Fakenham sees sales soar
Electric bikes are giving cyclists more confidence to get out and about on two wheels, says an expert who has launched a dedicated store in Fakenham.
In the first two months of opening his showroom and workshop in the heart of the town, Alan Poole, director of Norfolk Electric Bikes Ltd, has seen sales take off.
Having opened at 3 Millers Walk in November, trading in the run-up to Christmas far exceeded his expectations. Now he is predicting interest will continue to rise with the approach of spring and longer daylight hours.
He said: "Electric bikes are becoming more popular, especially for people who may have thought of giving up cycling. They know they can set off on a journey with the reassurance they have power on the bike to get them home.
"The bikes also open up more possibilities for commuting, which people might not otherwise have considered. One of my customers, for example, now regularly uses his electric bike to travel to work from Fakenham to Norwich, a round trip of 45 miles, which he may not have risked on a normal bike."
He stocks Raleigh, Batribike and Haibike, which are brands he has chosen from years of experience working in cycle sales in the south east. Prices range from just under £1,000 up to around £2,500.
His Fakenham premises are on two levels, with a showroom on the ground floor and workshop upstairs. Customers are provided with a lifetime warranty on their new bikes and the first two services are free.
In addition to the electric bikes, he sells a wide range of accessories including helmets, gloves, panniers, backpacks, bells, pumps and water bottles.
At present he is assisted by his partner, Joanne Meek, but will be looking to take on a salesperson in the future.
Norfolk Electric Bikes is open 9am-4.30pm from Tuesday to Friday and from 9am-3pm on Saturdays. Although closed on Sundays and Mondays, some appointments can be made by prior arrangement.
