New-look Great Massingham Post Office reopens after refurbishment

A new-look Great Massingham Post Office has re-opened after extensive building work, greatly increasing the branch opening hours.

The premises have been closed for four weeks for the refurbishment work to take place, and is now set to reopen on Friday, December 6.

Postmaster Mark Eldridge wanted to make changes to improve the layout of the Post Office branch within Massingham Stores. There is now an open-plan counter alongside the existing retail one.

This now means that the Post Office is open the same hours as the rest of the store, making it easier for customers to visit at a time that suits them best.

The new opening hours are 7am-7pm from Monday to Saturday, and 9am-7pm on Sundays.

This now provides 82 hours of postal services a week - nearly an extra 30 hours of service to that provided before.

The refurbishment project was supported by West Norfolk Council by way of grant support.

With bank closures hitting the area, Great Massingham Post Office has become the local branch for personal and business banking and free cash withdrawals for many people.

During the building work, Mr Eldridge used his mobile Post Office to provide services to the village on an interim basis. There were some temporary changes to some communities served during that time, but normal service has now resumed.

Sally Ingold, Post Office area change manager, said: “We are delighted that refurbishment work at Great Massingham Post Office is now complete.

“The branch is now open daily and much longer hours than before, making it easier for customers to visit.

“We worked with the postmaster to provide an interim branch to maintain service during big improvements being made to the Post Office and shop, which meant that the village was not left without vital Post Office services.”
