Sandringham estate launches new parkrun journey
It's been a long wait for organisers of West Norfolk's newest parkrun – but they're finally away from the starting line now.
Dozens took part in the inaugural event on the Sandringham estate at the weekend and officials expect those numbers to grow in the weeks ahead.
And, while most of those taking part were local to the area, organiser Bridget Plowright said there was the odd unexpected visitor in the field too.
She said: "One couple came to the Sandringham caravan site, looked up the nearest parkrun and found that one, not knowing it was the first one."
Work to establish the Sandringham parkrun, which covers the usual five kilometre distance in two loops, began three years ago and several members of the estate's staff are among the organisation team.
But plans to launch the event last year were scuppered by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Sandringham parkrun will take place every Saturday morning from 9am. Runners are asked to assemble from 8.30am and free parking is available to participants until 11am.
