Plans to demolish old Swaffham police station to make way for housing have re-emerged

Plans to demolish a former police station to make way for a new housing development have re-emerged.

The original proposals for the old station in Swaffham were scrapped a year ago amid concerns about the design of the scheme.

Neighbours complained the development would overlook their properties, particularly the owners of the Old Courthouse, which is currently attached to the station building.

While this original application set out plans for six homes, new developers have suggested nine houses would be more suitable for the site.

The former police station on West Acre Road has been empty since the force moved to a new location at the Ecotech Business Park.

The new proposals for the site seek to demolish the former headquarters and build nine new homes in its place, with a different layout to the withdrawn application.

Developers say efforts were made to avoid obstructing or overshadowing the Courthouse’s windows, which directly face the site, when drawing up the new designs.

The plans will be considered by Breckland Council in due course.
