Sarah Taylor elected as Norfolk’s new Police and Crime Commissioner
Norfolk’s new Police and Crime Commissioner will take up the role this week after emerging victorious in an election.
On Thursday, Labour candidate Sarah Taylor was elected to the position after receiving 52,445 votes in a first past the post ballot system.
She stood alongside candidates from the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and the previous Commissioner, Giles Orpen-Smellie, who has been in office since 2021.
Ms Taylor officially takes up office as Norfolk's Commissioner this Thursday, and one of her first tasks will be to consult with the public, partners and the police to set a Police, Crime and Community Safety Plan for the county.
Our Police and Crime Commissioner is elected by the public to set the countywide strategy for reducing crime and disorder and improving community safety.
They aim to serve as a voice of the people in policing, holding Norfolk Police’s Chief Constable to account for delivering an “efficient and effective police service”.
