New pre-owned and collectors store to open in King's Lynn High Street in former Mr Simms Olde Sweete Shoppe premises
After the closure of Mr Simm's Ye Olde Sweet Shop last month, a new pre-owned and collectors store will be opening on Lynn's High Street.
The shop, called Once Was New, which is rumoured to be opening this month, is currently undergoing interior works.
On the window it says "We buy your items for cash" and appears to have a range of games, consoles and electrical equipment.
Mr Simm's was is part of a national chain, and the Lynn store opened in 2011.
The vintage style sweet shop sold old school favourites in paper bags, and many will remember the jar lined shelves filled with American candy and gob-stoppers.
One of the best sellers was Black Death Pips, acid-coated lemon flavoured sweets, and Toxic Waste sweets.
In 2020 the running of it was taken over by Vicky Chiles. Ms Chiles had worked there when she was just 14 and when she heard owner Paul Stothers was moving to Spain, she decided to take it on.
At the time she said: ""I used to work there as a teenager during weekends, packing up sweets. I did that for a few years, so the shop was special to me. It's a unique shop and it brings something to the town, so I wanted to see it reopen."
However, within two years the confectioner announced their closure.
Ms Chiles said: ""A big thank you from Mr Simms to all the staff and customers over the last 11 years.
"You have all been so lovely and we wish everybody well."
