The Ship in Brancaster to get eight new accommodation suites if planning application gets green light
Several new rooms could come to a coastal hotel if plans are given the green light.
Representatives for The Ship Hotel in Brancaster have submitted a planning application for the development of a terrace of holiday cottages.
If approved, the proposed 1.5-storey structure will provide eight new suite rooms as an extension of The Ship’s facilities.
Back in 2022, a planning application was permitted for the erection of hotel accommodation at the venue and works for the huts commenced - but were ultimately abandoned when the project was deemed not economically viable.
However, the new proposal will replace those four previous abandoned huts with a design of similar size.
The proposed cottage-style terrace is of a “traditional aesthetic” which is “befitting” of the conservation area while having “minimal impact on the established street scene”, planning documents say.
A design and access statement prepared by ACS-Architectural says the materials and features are to be of a high quality.
It states: “A Norfolk Red-facing brick with chalk infills and a natural clay pantile roof is proposed. The design is to a high standard and detailing including traditional brick features such as ashlars, brick banding, corbels and chimney stacks.
“Traditional style lead-cladded wall dormers with ‘cat slide’ pantile roofs are proposed to the south elevation.”
The new suites would be designed to allow access for disabled people. A hard-surfaced alighting area would be provided, so people with disabilities arriving by vehicle can easily travel to the entrance of each ground floor suite.
The proposals are currently out for consultation, with that process ending on May 15 before West Norfolk Council makes its decision.
