A new multi-use games area has officially opened at Castle Acre playing field
A new games area with facilities for people of all ages has opened in Castle Acre.
Following the Castle Acre Playing Field Association’s success in winning a significant grant application to build a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), it was pleased to be able to open the new sports venue at the Massingham Road playing field on Friday.
At the formal opening event, Anne Neary, executive head teacher of the Nar Valley Federation of Church Academies, cut the ribbon, and representatives from the Lawn Tennis Association and the FCC Communities Foundation also attended.
The facility provides access to tennis, five-a-side football, basketball, netball and pickleball.
The new games area is suitable for all ages, from children to senior citizens, and was built thanks to a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation.
Mark Brenner, project manager, said: “We had a good turnout of villagers and people who are interested generally.”
He hopes the new MUGA will provide “an excellent asset to the village community in opening up opportunities to a new generation of budding racket players and encouraging many others to return to active sport with all the health benefits”.
Plans are afoot to register the venue with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), with tennis and pickleball coaching sessions to be made available.
The Castle Acre Tennis and Pickleball Club is being developed alongside.
The playground is expected to be a visitor destination from as far as Norwich and Lynn.
