Plans for a new warehouse in Downham, that would be used to store kits made by a leading sportswear manufacturer, have been outlined.

Developers Elite Group want to build a new storage and distribution facility on the St John’s Business Estate.

The building is intended to create four new units, as well as an access point, though the applicant says it intends to use them as a single unit.

A planning application for the scheme was submitted to West Norfolk Council last Monday and has now been published by the authority.

Documents submitted with the application say: “The building will be used for the storage of sportswear for Hummel who make football kits and associated sports clothing.

“When orders are received from football teams, the items will be picked from the warehouse, and will have numbers and team logos applied and then be collected and distributed by courier van.”

Although no details of the number of jobs likely to be created are given, the application says between four and eight parking spaces would be available for staff.

Best known for their long association with the Danish national football team, Hummel currently supply kits to several British football clubs and have previously supplied Norwich City.
