Strong winds failed to prevent a new venture by St Mary’s Parochial Church Council at Burnham Westgate going ahead. The church, which is in need of a kitchen and a toilet, organised a Christmas fair, both to showcase local crafters and raise money for the project.

“We’ve put it on as an experiment to see how it goes,” said PCC member and artist, Lucy Jacklin.

Naturally the emphasis was on Christmas gifts on the 15 stalls that filled the church. The event benefited from the many frustrated visitors to the lights switch-on who sought sanctuary from the chilling high winds and the church was packed with potential customers all afternoon.
