New King's Lynn and West Norfolk bin collection times start May 9

New collection days for residents’ household waste and recycling in West Norfolk start next week.

Serco, who manage household waste and recycling collections in Lynn and West Norfolk, is making these changes to reduce the distances bin trucks are travelling and accommodate new homes in the area.

The changes will start on Monday, May 9 and mean that three quarters of the borough's households will see a change to the day or week their household waste and recycling is collected. Food waste collections will remain weekly, on the same day as your waste or recycling collection.

Residents who remain on the same collection day and week may have a different collection time, therefore it remains important that waste or recycling bins are put out by 7am on collection day.

For residents subscribed to the assisted collection service, if your collection day is changing this will automatically move to your new collection day.

Serco have sent a leaflet to all Lynn and West Norfolk residents to advise of any changes to their household waste and recycling collections.

Cllr Paul Kunes, cabinet member for environment, said: “We all get into a routine of putting the bin out each week and appreciate that it can be a pain to change the day and understand the short-term inconvenience caused to residents but the revised collection schedule from Serco is aimed at making routes more efficient and environmentally friendly.

“I urge residents to hold on to the leaflet that they should have received to remind them what to put out and when or visit the Your Bins section of the borough council website to check when your collection will take place.

“The borough council continues to provide excellent value for money, providing its services for 23p a day and wants to keep council tax as low as possible.

“I would like to thank Serco and our bin crews for the work they have carried out on putting the new schedule together and the indispensable service they carry out every week in west Norfolk.”

Emma Windle, Serco’s senior contract manager for Norfolk, said: “Please check your leaflet, or the website, to confirm how the changes affect you and remember to put your bin out by 7am on your new collection day.”
