Nominations for Downham Market Local Heroes awards now on hold

Nominations for the Downham Market Local Heroes Awards are no longer being accepted, as the coronavirus crisis continues.

The awards, which are being organised by Downham Market Town Council, had been earmarked to take place at the town hall on May 31, but they have been postponed until further notice.

The council had been continuing to accept nominations for the 11 award categories after it announced the awards would be postponed earlier in March, but officials have now said that while existing nominations will still be valid, no more are being accepted at this time.

The awards, for which the Lynn News are acting as media partners, currently include the categories Volunteer of the year, Young Volunteer of the year, Carer of the year, Young Carer of the year, Local Charity of the year, Sports Club of the year, Sports Person of the year, Young Person of the year and Neighbour of the year.

An Environmental Award and an Overcoming Adversity Award were also planned.

Meanwhile, there would also be an overall "Winner of Winners".

A town council spokesperson said: "We will reopen for nominations and new categories will be announced as soon as possible.

"Thank you for your understanding in these difficult times."
