Norfolk-based ex-pilot will show off his rum at Sandringham Fayre
Its certainly a career change for Captain Ben Crisp, who is taking off with his new business "Norfolk Rums".
Ben's rum business offers a variety of flavours of liqueurs and spiced rum. From a spiced honey or vanilla to cherry or even coffee.
His next event is at the Sandringham Christmas Fayre this weekend.
“And before you utter those immortal words I don’t like rum you may find that we can change your whole perception of this amazing spirit,” said Ben who confesses to once not liking the beverage.
Mr Crisp revealed that all ingredients that go into his homemade rum are sourced in Norfolk.
"The honey used in the spliced Rum is from Narborough-based Leigh’s Bees and the Coffee used in the liqueurs is from the Black Bean company in Norwich. The water we use is from Norfolk springs."
However, it was never Capt Ben's intention to start a rum-making business. Like many others, Covid-19 has altered the ex-pilot's career path.
“We had just purchased a new house, my second child was on its way and everything was going just great and then Covid hit and we landed with a massive bump! It was a light-bulb moment," said Ben.
He gained a degree at Sheffield University before starting his commercial pilot training. But he said: “It’s a tough industry to break into.”
Ben is offering 10 per cent off to all Lynn News readers who bring a copy of this article to Sandringham Christmas Fayre.
