'Ask for Angela' enabled women to ask a member of staff for help without being obvious, this would help them get into a safe space or leave the premises without being followed.

Lynn police announced yesterday that 'Ask for Ani' would be rolled out in Boots pharmacies across Norfolk.

ANI stands for 'action needed immediately'.

Boots pharmacies have been continuously open since the pandemic began and are therefore a reliable place for victims of abuse to seek help.

Sarah Haynes, who is the manager at Boots in Lynn said: "This is a great scheme that allows a safe space for people to come and we can get them in touch with the right people.

"They can speak to the pharmacist and be taken to a safe room."

Since the pandemic began last year domestic abuse rates have gone up nationwide.

Charities in West Norfolk are encouraging people experiencing violence at home to 'speak out'.
