Norfolk woman surprised by gigantic potato discovery now bringing smiles to community
Having discovered a “gigantic” potato in a sack purchased from a West Norfolk village store, a 30-year-old has been making people smile within the community.
Jessie Rae was pleasantly surprised to find the potato within a sack bought from an independent store in Walsoken.
The Lynn-born woman said the giant spud was measured as being 8.5 inches long, and weighed in at 2lb.
She has since named the vegetable ‘Paddy the Potato’ and has received a positive response having posted pictures of it on social media pages.
Miss Rae, who now lives in Wisbech, said: “Some people have said this is the best thing to come out of 2020. The intention was to bring some good, light-hearted news.
"I was most definitely shocked when I saw it. It's by far the biggest one I have ever seen. My grandad and me are quite enjoying having it in the home, it's like finding a golden nugget.
"I think he [grandad] is more amused than anything by the response it has had. It's cheering people up."
She added that she does not want the potato to go to waste so she will be making chips within the next couple of days.
"They will surely be the biggest chips ever made," she joked.
The Wisbech resident has approached media celebrity Gemma Collins to ask if it could appear on her show. Posting on social media, Miss Rae also asked if the The Only Way Is Essex star would adopt Paddy in order to "give him a better life than I can"!
Miss Rae also said she has always made an effort to purchase fruit and vegetables from independent stores to support local business.
