How did you spend your Spring Bank Holiday Monday?
Paul Norris and Jennifer Whitgift spent it sailing at Snettisham Beach Sailing Club and won the Paul Dickson Challenge Cup, beating 17 other boats to the prize.
It has been a rapid progression for Whitgift. The 24 year-old junior doctor at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Lynn has only been sailing at the club since she moved to Norfolk last summer. She has only been sailing with Norris since the beginning of this season, two months ago.
She said: “I did some of the ladies sailing sessions last year and I did an RYA level 3 course with the club. Paul had his last crew for 10 years so I have some big shoes to fill.
“He has been working really hard to train me up to sail with him and keep Sweet Dreams (the name of the boat) upright despite my best efforts to capsize us.”
Racing Norris’s Laser 2000 dinghy is a new sailing thrill for Whitgift, but he is very experienced.
It is not unusual that new sailors can progress quickly at Snettisham Beach by crewing with knowledgeable sailors.
