Nwes advises college students at King's Lynn thinking of setting up businesses

Students thinking about setting up their own enterprises gained an insight into the world of business during a pilot course trialled at Lynn's College of West Anglia.

The course was led by Paul Gardner, who is Nwes business consultant at KLIC, where he already runs similar two-day First Steps to Start Up courses.

The college course had been specially adapted and was delivered to 14 students studying hair and beauty.

Paul said: "We had a very positive response and we are now working with the college to see whether we could roll out the course to other departments.

"People who are studying various trades may well be considering setting up on their own and there are a lot of things to consider.

"For example, during the pilot course we discussed tax, and what the requirements are if you are self-employed. We also covered financial forecasting in some depth. During the two days, they were producing their own business plans and gained an invaluable insight into profit and sales.

Nwes is one of the largest not-for-profit enterprise agencies in the UK and provides total business support, boosts self-employment and encourages enterprise.
