Ogdens pick up third Clenchwarton win

Clenchwarton (South) had their third race of the season from Lyndhurst when seven lofts sent 126 birds, writes Kevin Mason.

Three races gone and all three races have gone to Rod and Gloria Ogden. The birds were very quick with a helping back wind.

Result: 1, 2 Rod and Gloria Ogden & Sons, with vel’s of 2068, 2013; 3, 4, 5 Peter and Dave Ellwood, 1987, 1986, 1972; 6 Dale & Neil Dennis, 1956.

Clenchwarton (North) raced from Seaham Harbour when seven members sent 114 birds. The club’s top north roaders Wally and Sheila Collins won the first three positions. The birds were released in a easterly wind at 0700 hrs.

Result: 1, 2, 3 Wally and Sheila Collins, 1264, 1259, 1258; 3, 4, 5 Ted and Sandra Scott, 1157, 1148, 1099.

Wereham had seven members send 144 birds to Lyndhurst. Two good wins from three races from Wormegay’s Billy Mellett, when his Flor Engels took 2hrs 11mins to fly 151 miles.

Result: 1, 2, 4, 6 Billy Mellett, 2028, 2027, 1985, 1957; 3, 5 Jim and Wendy Cook, 2023, 1976.

New Lynn RPC had 14 members send 228 birds to Lyndhurst, and were liberated in a strong SW wind at 1200 hrs. North Lynn flyers took five of the club’s first six cards. Kim Peacock and Bernie Byrne won the race with a Jock Thorn and Ellwood bloodline cock bird and took 2hrs 14 mins to fly almost 156 miles. Chris and Leighton Boughen had three of their birds making the top six, taking first pools and the nom as well.

Result: 1 Kim Peacock & Bernie Byrne 2040; 2, 4, 6 Chris and Leighton Boughen 2029, 1994, 1992; 3 Linda Simper 2004; 2nd pools: Peter Farrow with an HM Queen bird.

Fens S.R. Federation had 11 clubs send 2,528 birds to Newbury. Local clubs did very well winning 12 positions in the top 20.

Result: 4th Manning Bros & Son; 5th Rod and Gloria Ogden & Sons; 6th Pat and Julie Royle; 7th and 13th Kim Peacock and Bernie Byrne; 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th Peter and Dave Ellwood; 14th Chris and Leighton Boughen; and Rodney Cochrane 15th.

Lyndhurst, flown on 03/05/15: taking first was Will Byrne with a check pied two year old cock racing the 155 miles 1583 yards in just 2 hours 14 min 56 sec to record a velocity of 2033.471.
