An online fundraising page has been set up to support efforts to rebuild a village church which was devastated by fire earlier this month.

Supporters of St Mary's Church in Wimbotsham are campaigning via the Just Giving platform to help the renovation of the building, which officials have suggested could have a broader community use in the future.

The move follows a public meeting at the weekend, where villagers were told that it could take several more weeks to determine the cause of the blaze on September 4.

Contractors are currently working to make the building watertight ready for winter and bells are set to be removed from the tower.

And the meeting was told that the church in Stow Bardolph has been offered as an alternative venue for services.

A statement on the fundraising page said: "In order to turn the recent tragedy into an opportunity that will benefit as many people as possible, we are hoping to raise money in order to enhance the new build by adding a kitchen area and toilet facilities to provide a welcoming, multi-purpose space for use by the wider community in the future.

"The church has always remained steadfast at the heart of the village and we want to ensure that it continues to be for generations to come.
