Open day at Snettisham nature site

Around 40 residents and parish councillors attended an open day at Wild Ken Hill to learn more about the project and its benefits to the local area.

Wild Ken Hill, near Snettisham, is a nature, climate, and people project which employs rewilding and regenerative farming projects side by side.

The morning began with a presentation made by Wild Ken Hill founder Dominic Buscall, outlining the ethos of the Wild Ken Hill project, before sharing some of the achievements so far.

These included that Wild Ken Hill turned net zero last year and has generated three jobs, 15 volunteering opportunities, five student projects and a cultural programme.

Guests were then led on a walk to look at the sustainable farming and rewilding efforts on the ground, and saw wild Exmoor Ponies and Tamworth pigs, and also visited the beaver woods.

Mr Buscall said: “This open morning was part of our mission to host, engage, and educate a wider range of visitors and residents about the exciting nature restoration work taking place here at Wild Ken Hill.

“Since the project commenced in 2020 we have made great strides in increasing the biodiversity interest of the land at the same time as helping to sequester CO2. We’re delighted to have hosted the BBC’s Springwatch and Autumnwatch programmes as well as plenty of visits for local people, including hundreds of local school children.”

Wild Ken Hill host regular free open days for local residents which are advertised on local village Facebook Pages.
