Have your say

I can’t believe it’s rolled around again but this Friday KL.FM’s Young Hero Awards will be taking place at Lynn Town Hall.

The great and good of West Norfolk including the Borough Mayor, Lady Romney, King’s Lynn’s Fire Chief and many more will be there to present awards to some very deserving young people from the area we live in.

Children and young adults who have made a difference to our community, their families themselves and the people around them will be recognised for their achievements this year.

All of the nominees have shown massive improvement, success, some have improved in education despite obstacles in their way, others have made a difference not only to their lives but to other people’s lives but all of them are most definitely young heroes!

It was a truly emotional morning last year and this year I’m sure will be just the same.

Behind the scenes I’ve already interviewed all of the nominees and their nominators and know just how much this event means to them and how proud they are of the achievements during 2014, make sure you don’t miss it! Share in their success and the road they have travelled on the Adam Newstead Breakfast show this Friday from six, live on KL.FM.

At home however I have a couple of my own little heroes! What year 2014 has been, I celebrated by 10th wedding anniversary, I turned 40, there was a whole host of other big family events including the one fast approaching on Thursday when my children will turn into teenagers!

In my mind the term ‘turn’ is correct after growing up with Harry Enfield and Kevin the Teenager. I’m not quite sure how I feel about being old enough to have two children who are 13 or just how much more expensive they are about to get, how many more mood swings there may be, how much harder it will get and how long before my hair may start to grey.

According to them it already is, this I refuse to believe, they blame my eyesight! I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to relate to this, my ‘little’ girl is 12 going on 17 already, luckily my ‘little’ boy is just über cool and laid-back, so I doubt there be too many issues with him.

They’re great kids really and I’d just like to take this opportunity to wish them a very Happy Birthday from Mum and Dad. I’ll probably be told of for embarrassing them now!

This is also my last column of 2014 so I’d like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, too.
