King’s Lynn StoptheWar calls for a ceasefire in Gaza as a result of the Israel and Palestine conflict

An organisation has called for a meeting demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.

King’s Lynn StoptheWar are preparing to meet at Marriott’s Warehouse next Thursday, November 2 to speak about the Israel and Palestine conflict.

Starting at 7.00pm, the meeting is supported by both the King's Lynn and District Trades Council as well as the Wisbech and March District Trades Council.

Jacqueline Mulhallen, convenor for StoptheWar said: “I was born during the second world war, and my mother told me about how she had been in Germany in the 1930s and seen what was happening to her Jewish friends there. When she got back, though, nobody would listen to her.

“I am appalled by what is happening in Gaza now, and the way that our political leaders, who should know better, are refusing to demand a ceasefire, and allowing the slaughter to continue.”

Part of the outrage comes after the Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, has called the people of Gaza “animals” and blocked the entry of food, water and fuel into the city.

During a Ministerial Statement on Monday, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, referring to providing humanitarian aid and releasing Britons from Gaza, said: "We recognise for all of that to happen, there has to be a safer environment, which of course necessitates specific pauses – as distinct from a ceasefire,"

Many are also upset about how, according to UNICEF, ‘A reported 2,360 children have been killed and 5,634 injured in attacks in Gaza — more than 400 children killed or injured daily.’

Jaqueline said: “At the protest in Norwich a couple of weeks ago, we found that many people do not know what to do about this, or why on earth it is happening. I urge people to come and hear speakers who do know and can explain. With our own political leaders supporting such barbarity, we need to call them to account for what they are doing in our name.”
