North Norfolk catering company opening a new venue in Thornham
An outside catering company based in north Norfolk will be returning to its roots as they look to provide a crumb of comfort for couples tying the knot.
The Main Event, which is run by Lynn and Nick Handley, are opening up a new unit on the Drove Orchard complex, in Thornham, which they hope to have up and running by early September.
The couple are no strangers to the area.
They moved from the Midlands where Nick was a director of a company owning large, corporate hotels specialising in wedding receptions in order to buy the Lifeboat Inn in the village.
After that, they added the likes of Sculthorpe Mill, near Fakenham, The Old Bank Bistro, in Snettisham, The
Anchor Inn, Morston, and The Queen's Head Hotel at Nassington to their ever-growing portfolio.
Speaking on their new venture, Lynn said: "We are very pleased to have this space
within the Drove Orchard complex - there's so much going on there and I feel it can offer us a 'shop window' in a prestige setting.
"It's also good to be coming back to Thornham where we lived for many years."
Tens of thousands of weddings across the country have been affected by the UK lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic, completely stalling the wedding industry as a whole, which contributes a staggering £10bn to the country's economy.
The government recently gave the go ahead for weddings of up to 30 guests and the Main Event is doing everything to help couples ahead of their special day.
They are already working closely with couples who are having to completely change their plans and Lynn added: "We're excited about the move, but naturally disappointed for all of our many clients forced into postponement this year.
"We only have one remaining client who is considering going ahead with vastly reduced numbers to bring them in line with government requirements, while all our other clients are squeezing into 2021.
"It looks like next year is going to be pretty hectic."
Whilst the partnership always combined event catering with the various businesses, they decided to concentrate purely on outside catering from 2010.
The couple's three children, Ben, Kate and Sam share a similar passion for food with Ben and his wife, Sarah, owning The Duck Inn at Stanhoe and The Bell at Hunworth.
Sam is overall general manager between the two pubs, while Kate works as head chef and general manager at the Main Event, as well as helping out at both of Ben's establishments.
