A mother has been left “overwhelmed” by the turnout at a charity football match held in memory of her son.
Last Saturday, Narborough Sports and Social Club played host to the wonderful event, with a whopping £2,725 raised for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Footballers kitted up for the game in memory of Dan Walker, who died aged 24 in 2019. He had Down’s Syndrome, as well as various heart complications, and received care from EACH.
His brother Dillon spearheads the memorial, which has now taken place four years in a row.
Players from Narborough and Swaffham turned out, while a barbecue and raffle also took place on the day - with plenty of locals and nearby businesses donating to the cause.
Sponsors included Trackstar Racing in Lynn, Jack Garrods MOT and Vehicle Repairs in Swaffham, Home and Garden Outlet Store in Clenchwarton, Carers Elite in Downham, and AIR Accountancy Services in Swaffham.
“We had no end of people turn out,” Kay Walker, Dan’s mum, told the Lynn News.
“The weather was good, which always helps.
“We are just overwhelmed at the amount of people that came out in memory of my son Daniel.
“A lot of the village knew him, and he used to watch the local team in Narborough play.”
After the game, there was some enjoyable live music courtesy of Sidewalk, a local band who play songs from the 60s onwards.
