People in Narborough, Marham, Wormegay, Saddle Bow, South Creake and Burnham Thorpe told to expect flooding after heavy rainfall
Residents in parts of West Norfolk have been warned to expect flooding today following heavy rainfall.
The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings – meaning that flooding is expected – for the River Nar at Narborough, Marham, Wormegay and Saddle Bow, as well as the River Burn from South Creake to Burnham Thorpe.
The River Nar warning says that river levels remain high following heavy rainfall from Storm Henk.
Areas most at risk are Main Road in Narborough, Spring Lane in Marham, Lynn Road, Garage Lane and St Germans Road in Setchey, Mill Road in St Germans, and Low Road, High Road, Maple Road and Acer Road in Saddle Bow.
Further light rainfall is possible over the next 12 hours which may keep river levels high.
“Be ready to take action to protect your property if flooding is expected,” the warning adds.
The Environment Agency is monitoring the situation and will provide an update online by 5pm.
Meanwhile, the warning for the River Burn has been issued because “some minor flooding to low lying land, roads and riverside areas is likely and flooding of homes and businesses is possible today”.
“The River Burn is rising in response to the overnight rainfall,” it adds.
However, it says that the forecast is for predominantly dry conditions for the next few days.
Elsewhere, flood alerts – meaning that flooding is possible – have been issued for the River Burn from Southgate and Waterden to Burnham Thorpe; the RIver Wensum upstream of Hempton, including the River Tat; North West Norfolk Rivers (Heacham River, The Ingol, Babingley RIver and Gaywood River); the River Nar between Litcham and South Lynn; and the River Wissey from Bradenham to Denver.
