Permanent Post Office on the cards for Fakenham as two applicants express interest

A town could finally get a permanent postal facility again after five years as two applicants have shown interest.

Residents in Fakenham have been fighting for a proper Post Office with the help of MP Jerome Mayhew - and their prayers may have been answered.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We are pleased to confirm that we are working with an interested party to reopen a full-time, permanent branch in Fakenham.”

Mr Mayhew took to Facebook with the good news, saying there is also an additional applicant in reserve.

This comes after the MP launched a petition for a permanent postal facility in the town, which gained more than 1,000 signatures.

Since 2020, residents have been using what was meant to be a temporary Post Office in the Miller’s Walk shopping area, with its nearest proper branches located in Little Snoring and Great Ryburgh, around four miles away.

But concerns were raised last month when it was revealed that the Little Snoring branch would close its doors on July 8, making it even harder for residents to access postal facilities.

Additionally, the town is set to lose its last bank on July 1, leaving nowhere for people to make deposits.

The Post Office is set to share further details when the plans are finalised.
