Lack of investment in Norfolk’s bus services is leaving people in rural areas behind, North Norfolk MP Steffan Aquarone says

People living in rural Norfolk are being left behind due to a lack of investment in bus services, an MP has said.

Steffan Aquarone, MP for North Norfolk, has demanded the government find more cash to support better transport links in parts of the county.

In some villages, people face limited options for bus travel, which can make it difficult to get to doctor’s appointments and see family, the Liberal Democrat said.

“Politicians from each and every party have long under-estimated the impact buses have on our day-to-day lives out here in the sticks,” he added.

“They get us to vital appointments, to the shops, to see our friends and loved ones – at least they used to.

“We need investment in a proper rural bus network that links up towns and villages and ensures residents can hop on a bus when and where they need to.”

A lack of transport links in the county has wide-ranging effects on rural communities, which include creating barriers to higher education, well-paying jobs and accessing healthcare.

A petition has been launched by Mr Aquarone, which aims to put pressure on the government to provide more funding, which is found at northnorfolklibdems.org.uk.
