Terrington Nursery gets an outstanding rating from Ofsted

Outstanding in every way - that is the verdict of Ofsted inspectors who have visited the Phoenix Montessori Nursery at Terrington St Clement.

In a major turnaround since the last inspection when they “needed improvement”, the report from May gave the nursery top rating in every category including overall effectiveness.

A nursery spokesman said: “We are particularly proud of this rating as all staff have worked tirelessly and in stressful circumstances throughout the Covid pandemic. We were so pleased that our efforts to ensure the children were able to maintain a sense of normality was particularly praised as this is something we worked very hard to achieve. We are also incredibly proud to be awarded the highest rating possible as the inspection framework has recently been reworked and it is now considered very difficult to achieve an outstanding rating.

“Ofsted praised us highly, stating that "children demonstrate that they feel safe, secure and highly valued", they also noted the "exceptionally strong bonds" they have built with staff.”

The report also commented on the way that the children learn about the rural community where they live and about the natural environment.

The Phoenix Montessori Nursery in Terrington has been operating for the last 37 years. The nursery and pre-school cater to children from three months to five years, and up to eight during the school holidays. It has a substantial waiting list. The nursery incorporates the Montessori philosophy for all age ranges, encouraging children to be independent and self-motivated.

The spokesperson added: “We would like to thank all of our wonderful parents and carers who have been so supportive, our children who are a joy to care for every day and also our brilliant staff who thoroughly deserved to be recognised as the outstanding practitioners they are.”
