Proposals to expand a Swaffham electricity substation in order to improve supplies to RAF Marham have been lodged with council planners.

Morrison Utility Services have submitted an application to Breckland Council for permission to extend the facility in North Pickenham Road.

Documents submitted as part of the application say the plan is intended to “provide a 25MVA supply to RAF Marham.”

A major redevelopment project, including a range of support and training facilities, is already underway at the base ahead of the arrival of the new Lightning F-35s, which flew over the site for the first time earlier this month, in 2018.

Both Swaffham’s town council and environmental health officers have indicated they don’t have any objections to the scheme.
