Man from Wisbech in King’s Lynn court after drink-driving in Walton Highway

A drink-driver was caught by police after he was found swerving across a dual carriageway.

Maciej Iwaszczyszyn, 43, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to driving above the legal alcohol limit.

Crown prosecutor Lesla Small said that on October 29 at 1.10am, police officers were on duty on the A47 at Walton Highway when they saw the BMW that Iwaszczyszyn was driving bumping along the cats’ eyes in the road.

They decided to pull Iwaszczyszyn over and conducted a breath test, which came back with a reading of 73mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit to drive is 35mcg.

In mitigation, Tiffany Meredith explained that Iwaszczyszyn, of The Ferry Project in Wisbech, has undergone hardships in recent months and had gone to visit a friend in Lynn to have “a couple of drinks”.

“Him and his girlfriend were recently evicted from their property due to it being a shared occupancy and his girlfriend was pregnant,” Ms Meredith said.

She explained that Iwaszczyszyn is currently looking for work and throughout his arrest was “calm and compliant”.

Iwaszczyszyn was disqualified from driving for 20 months and was fined £120.

He will also pay a victim surcharge of £48 and court costs of £105.
