Police chase in Downham Market after reports made on youths

Last night, police in Downham chased three youths from Lynn on foot after complaints of public nuisance.

The three will be detained and one will be held in custody due for court today.

This comes after reports of sexual harassment of one female who had her young child with her and a rape case that is still ongoing.

The female, in her 20's, who reported the incident of harassment to the police said that she was followed by a group of youths while she had her eight-month-old child in a pram.

They were making inappropriate comments to her.

She reported that the incident took place near Station Road, Downham.

The reported rape took place on Sunday April 4 in the Rouse's Lane area between 3am and 8am, and are appealing for anyone with new information to come forward.

Another woman has stated on social media saying that she was "chased" near Tesco supermarket by a group of young men.

Locals have praised the police's "proactive approach" following these concerning reports in the usually quiet market town.

One Facebook user said: "Well done to the police for facing this issue head on."

Other however are now worried about walking around at night.

A social media user said: "I now don't feel safe going out at night, what has happened to this town? It's always been such a nice place."
