Police officers organised for a war medal they recovered after a burglary at a church to be restored to its original glory.

PC Stuart Fisher was called to the break-in at All Saints Church, in Hillington Square, where the medal was being displayed as part of an exhibition.

He said: “This offence just struck a chord with all the police officers here.”

Lynn historian Dr Paul Richards, nephew of Edwin Lambert, was presented with the refurbished medal this week. Edwin, of Lynn, was killed three weeks before the end of World War I. He was awarded the victory medal posthumously and it now belongs to Dr Richards’ mother Evelyn, aged 95.

Dr Richards said: “I took it back to my mother and she was very pleased.”

Dr Richards will wear the medal at Sunday’s remembrance service in Tower Gardens, Lynn.

* Laura Bailey, 34, of London Road, Lynn, is due to be sentenced for the burglary later this month. A man has also been charged.
